As you probably know, there are a few things you should do to keep your teeth healthy and strong. Similarly, you probably know that there are a few things you should have addressed by your dentist. For instance, you may need to have a cavity filled or may even need root canal therapy—but sometimes, a common procedure may not be enough.
Fortunately, you can usually rely on something like root canal therapy to protect your oral health. Typically, you’ll need root canal therapy to remove an infection in the center of your teeth. Luckily, root canal therapy has come a long way in recent years. In fact, most patients who have had a cavity filled and have had root canal therapy say the two are fairly comparable.
However, you may also need to consider root canal microsurgery, which is also known as an apicoectomy. If you have calcium deposits that restrict the canals of your roots, you could be a candidate.
An apicoectomy may also be used for diagnostic reasons. If you have persistent pain, yet your X-rays don’t show anything to be worried about, you may need an apicoectomy. Similarly, if you’ve had root canal therapy already, but the center of your tooth becomes infected a second time, you may need root canal microsurgery.
If you think that you may be a candidate for root canal surgery or for root canal microsurgery, we can help. Our dentist, Dr. Scott Healey, and our team will examine your oral health and help you understand what you may be able to do to enjoy healthier teeth. To schedule an appointment, please call Scott M.
